The Very Little Theatre continues its 76th season
with the entertaining comedy FOOTLIGHT FRENZY, opening on May 27, 2005
at 2350 Hilyard, Eugene, Oregon.
Footlight Frenzy is a zany comedy that takes place in the auditorium of the Rye School for Unusual Children on a recent Friday evening during a benefit performance of "Tarnished Silver", Tony Langdon's searing tragedy in four acts. We see the woes of a professional director (who also wrote the play) dealing with a well-meaning but assorted group of amateur school personnel who in turn bring their own special talents of ineptness to the stage. The school principal arrives thinking it is a dress rehearsal, his neurotic wife, head of the PTA, has decided she wants another baby as the first two children didn't turn out so well; and the school treasurer is constantly trying to get a date while the janitor has eyes for the acting teacher who in turn wants to go to Hollywood. All may have been well if not for the knowledge that a famous Broadway producer has shown up looking for a husband and wife acting team. With this news the director (and playwright) Tony Langdon becomes somewhat maniacal as each new problem has to be solved.
