Cabaret

Welcome to the third show in our 75th Season!
Cabaret is a strong, sexy, and tuneful show — one of the most celebrated and popular musicals of the last half-century. Cabaret tells the story of Clifford Bradshaw (played by Evan Howells), an American writer who visits Berlin when the Nazis are beginning to come to power. He meets Sally Bowles (Liz Kadel), an English nightclub singer at the Kit Kat Club, and the two fall in love. Tragedy is imminent, however, as the Nazi takeover begins, narrated by the leering Emcee (Teque DeLeon). The Kit Kat Club becomes a visual metaphor for the depraved and dangerous place that Berlin is becoming. Also figuring prominently is the tragic relationship between Clifford’s elderly landlord, Fraulein Schneider (Shaunie Schmoll), who gets engaged to a Jewish greengrocer, Herr Schultz (Bill Furtick) — not an easy decision, given the increasing influence of the Nazis.
Director for this production is the talented Michael Watkins, who will also do the choreography. The musical director is Jim Greenwood, and the set design is by David Sherman. All are veterans of dozens of local musicals, and we are thrilled to have such a professional team leading this production.
This is a powerful show, filled with wonderful music, but with a message as gripping as today’s headlines. Due to mature themes and subject matter, we do not recommend this show for children. We do expect very strong ticket sales, however, and recommend that you get your reservations in early for best seats!
