Set to run from July 13, 2007 through July 21, 2007 in the VLT's Stage Left, Blue Skies and Butterflies is an original work by local Eugene writer Eileen Dawson Peterson. She began writing the play in the early 1990's and slowly developed it over the next ten years.
Unfortunately, a few days before the final dress rehearsal, a cast member fell ill. In addition to another recent cast change, replacing both parts so close to the opening was too big a hurdle, and the run was cancelled.
Delaying the show was not an option, because the VLT had another play opening in a couple weeks on its main stage.
The VLT President at the time, Suzanne Shapiro, expressed regret for the cancellation, as everyone connected with the show had put a great deal of energy in bringing Peterson's new play to life. The VLT maintains a desire to showcase local talent, so keep an eye out for Blue Skies and Butterflies finding its way into a future VLT season. |
