The Flowering Peach, the first play of our 47th Season, was the final play ever written by Clifford Odets.

Odets' final work recounts the biblical story of Noah in which the patriarch and his family attempt to cope with the disastrous flood. Some consider this play to be Odets at his mature best. His examination of the biblical Noah concentrates on the family, this time with an increased awareness of and tolerance for man's imperfections.

The Columbia Faculty Committee voted to award the play the Pulitzer Prize, but their decision was overruled by the trustees, who gave it instead to Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
