Cabaret is a strong, sexy, and tuneful show — one of the most celebrated and popular musicals of the last half-century.
This Broadway hit tells the story of Clifford Bradshaw, an American writer who visits Berlin when the Nazis are beginning to come to power. He meets Sally Bowles, an English nightclub singer at the Kit Kat Club, and the two fall in love. Tragedy is imminent, however, as the Nazi takeover begins, narrated by the leering Emcee. The Kit Kat Club becomes a visual metaphor for the depraved and dangerous place that Berlin is becoming. Also figuring prominently is the tragic relationship between Clifford’s elderly landlord, Fraulein Schneider, who gets engaged to a Jewish greengrocer, Herr Schultz — not an easy decision, given the increasing influence of the Nazis.
This is a powerful show, filled with wonderful music, but with a message as gripping as today’s headlines. Due to mature themes and subject matter, we do not recommend this show for children. We do expect very strong ticket sales, however, and recommend that you get your reservations in early for best seats! |
