Eugene Weekly Review
Three Days of Rain will make you call your parents

Register-Guard Review
‘Three Days of Rain’ a satisfying production

"Three Days of Rain in the end proves to be one of those rare treasures: a small, intimate play that tackles some pretty profound ideas without once losing the subtle rhythms and stumbling uncertainties of family life."

"Well directed by Sarah Etherton, with fine acting by three actors in six roles... It is a pleasure to watch their work, and the entire production is satisfying."

Three Days of Rain is a Pulitzer prize nominated play by Richard Greenberg. Walker Janeway returns to New York a year after the death of his father. He takes up temporary residence in the unused space where thirty-five years earlier, his father, Ned, and Ned's late partner, Theo, both architects, lived and designed the great house that would make them famous. Sleepless and emotionally jangled, Walker scours the old empty space for clues, evidence or keys to the tortured family history.

Discovering his father's journal hidden under the bed, he finds it as unforthcoming as his nearly silent father had been. Walker is joined by his sister, Nan, and their friend from childhood, Pip, Theo's son, to hear the reading of Ned's will. It is there that Walker forces the confrontation that the others need.

One of the intriguing aspects of the play is that the three actors who play Walker, Nan, and Pip also portray their parents, in a flashback scene later in the play—the fateful 1960 three days of rain when they designed the New York house. The difference between the assumptions made by the children about their parents in the first half, and the reality of the critical events that shaped all of their lives shown in the flashback scene, make for a sad, funny, and unexpectedly romantic family story.

Directed by Sarah Etherton, this production will play in the VLT's Stage Left space.
